AREA 6 LAND CONTEST HAS RECORD DAY
The Area 6 District Land Judging Contest was held northeast of Blue Hill on October 5, 2006. There were 247 contestants, from ten schools. Those schools attending were; Red Cloud, Superior, Lawrence/Nelson, Sandy Creek, Blue Hill, Hampton, Heartland, Grand Island Nort hwest, Fillmore Central and McCool Junction.
The contest is sponsored by the Little Blue NRD, Webster County NRCS and Webster County Extension. The contests winners were: First place Team: Heartland – Colton Chrisman, Jordan Epp, Trenton Friesen and Rory van den Berg; Second Place Team: Hampton – Dylan Bamesberger, Aaron Friesen, Brock Kohtz and Kyle Ediger; Third Place Team: Heartland – Aaron Epp, Trenten Fr iesen, Seth Vlieger and Kyle Zierott; Fourth Place Team: Heartland – Jonah Blackburn, Nick Heinrichs, Ethan Schaldecker and Derek Stamp. Individual winner was Dylan Bamesberger of Hampton, 2nd; Caleb Epp of Heartland, 3rd Trenton Shuck of Sandy Creek.
The following winners will advance to the
State
Land Judging Competition to be held in Wahoo October 31st. Teams that will representing Area 6 are: Heartland – Colton Chrisman, Jordan Epp, Trenton Friesen and Rory van den Berg; Hampton - Dylan Bamesberger, Aaron Friesen, Brock Kohtz and Kyle Ediger; Red Cloud – Ryan Bostock, Brett Rupprecht, Sam Mousel and Wes Olson; and Sandy Creek – Clint Felber, Trenton Shuck, Justin Meyer and John Bondegard. Only one team from each school can compete at the state contest, even if they rank higher in the contest, they received ribbons. |

AREA 6 RANGE CONTEST HAS DAMP BUT RECORD DAY
There are more acres of rangeland than any other land category in Nebraska. Rangeland totals 24 million acres with an additional 1.5 million acres of land previously farmed seeded back to grasses. Together, these grasslands (range and pasture) occupy 52 percent of the state.
Rangeland is one of Nebraska’s most important and valuable natural resources by the dedication shown by students, instructors and testers who weathered the rain that continually fell during this year’s Area 6 District Range Judging Contest held north of Deshler on September 21st. There were 152 contestants, 58 Seniors and 89 Junior teams and 5 professional from nine schools. Those schools attending were; Aurora, Red Cloud, Superior, Waverly, Lawrence/Nelson, Sandy Creek, East Butler, Diller/Odell and Blue Hill.
The contest is sponsored by the Little Blue NRD, Thayer County NRCS and Thayer County Extension. The contests overall winning team was Junior Team Diller/Odell, Senior Champion Team was Superior (Patrick Carter, Mike Perrie, Tinkham and Ross Montgomery), Junior Champion Team was Diller Odell, Top Junior Individual was Janelle Rickstrew of Diller/Odell; Top Individual Senior was Patrick Carter of Superior and Top Professional was D.J Mottl of East Butler. Winners will advance to the State Competition to be held in Hamilton County the first week of October. It was noted that this years statewide District contest seen over 1,000 contestant a number that hasn’t been there in many many years.
